The Greek Orthodox Community of St. Nicholas was established in 1971. The original Church was located on the northeast corner of Warden and Sheppard in Scarborough, Ontario.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck in 1979 and the Church was destroyed by a fire. Shortly thereafter, an empty lot with great potential was discovered at 3840 Finch Avenue East.
What began as a dream became reality when the present, Byzantine-style Church, was finally constructed.
The new Church of St. Nicholas officially opened its doors on December 4, 1983, and was consecrated on May 15, 1994, by His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Sotirios of Toronto (Canada).
In May 1998, His All Holiness BARTHOLOMEW, Archbishop of Constantinople-New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, made a historic visit and blessed the Church of St. Nicholas in Toronto.
